Locke St. John Talks South Alabama Commitment

Written by Gene Hansen. Posted in Uncategorised

JagsJungle.com recently caught up with new South Alabama commit Locke St. John of Southern Union St. Community College in Wadley Alabama.

St. John prepped at Pell City High School where he committed to Southern Union early his senior year and then had an excellent spring that gained him interest from the MLB draft and a handful of DI schools.  Auburn made a run at him late in the recruiting process, but he stuck with SUSCC.

Jags Jungle: First of all, congratulations on the commitment.  What other schools were involved in your recruitment?
Locke St. John: Troy and South Alabama.  Auburn contacted my summer coach, but I wasn’t too interested.

JJ: What made you pick South?
LSJ: The atmosphere.  The coaches reputation to win.  The energy of the coaches.  I get to reunite and play ball with (Jaguar freshman) Cole Billingsley again, since he's from my high school.  Also, I'll play all four years with Adam Ballew (current Jag commit).  He's awesome to play with too.  He brings a lot of energy to the field and he’s a great guy!

JJ: You were a high 80's guy in HS, where was your velocity sitting this year?
LSJ: My velocity is about the same.  I’m working to put on weight and raise my velocity this year!

JJ: What are your strengths as a pitcher?
LSJ: Throwing all my pitches for strikes.

JJ: What do you work the hardest at to improve?
LSJ: Kind of all parts because I don’t believe I'm perfect in any part, so I work hard at everything.

JJ: What are your goals for this season, both personal and for SUSCC?
LSJ: Win state and just keep grades up!

Locke St. John had a very productive freshman year at Southern Union, amassing 8 wins with 3.93 ERA in 14 starts, while striking out 88 batters in 100 innings and limiting hitters to a .183 batting average.
Perfect Game ranked him as a (very favorable) “High Follow” as a senior in high school.
