Practice Report: 8/16

Written by JT Crabtree. Posted in Football News

The Jags returned to a lighter day of practice on Thursday, exactly two weeks before the start of the 2012 season opener.

The offense as a whole ran through situational drills, with the 1’s and 2’s each getting a share of the playing field. Wide receivers Bryant Lavender and Cameron Broadnax each looked good today. Corey Besteda made a catch and then quickly broke away from defenders for a touchdown. Tight end Greg Hollinger also made a few very good catches. The offensive line also made strides in pass protection, the most impressive of the day being Drew Dearman.

The defense made several interceptions during individual drills and during 11-on-11 drills. Charles Watson, BJ Scott, EJ May, and Ben Giles each had an interception. Defensive back Tyrell Pearson got the defense and coaches excited when he barreled over tight end Rush Hendricks on his way to making a tackle.

Special teams continue to work on extending their kicking game. Michel Chapuseaux had several kicks that were longer than 45 yards.

The Jags will not hold practice again this week before their scrimmage on Saturday, which will be held at Ladd-Peebles Stadium and is closed to the public.
