Practice Report: Day Four

Written by JT Crabtree. Posted in Football News

The Jags were put back to work on Monday after an off day, and the elements were not kind. But what can you expect when you’re playing outdoors in southern Alabama?

The offense today was highlighted by Greg Hollinger. Hollinger appears to have found a natural position at tight end, making several impressive catches over the middle, as well as a few flat routes. Junior tight end Jared Palmer also saw a few reps with the first team. Wide receiver Corey Besteda continued his impressive work today, using his 6-3 frame to his advantage to catch high passes over the shorter defenders. He also made a sliding one handed catch that caused Coach Joey Jones to run over and give him congratulations. Jereme Jones had a great day in the pass skeleton, not dropping a single pass and even fell down and continued his route to make another catch as well.

The defense was fiery today, causing two fumbles during drills. During a full 11-on-11, linebacker Enrique Williams barreled over running back Demetre Baker. He also recorded a sack later in the drill. Defensive back Darrius Marrow had a good day defending the pass, while Eddy Cabrera added two interceptions in the red zone during the pass skeleton. During 7-on-7 drills, Marrow and Jonathon Cameron were taunting the offense to pass the ball their way. Marrow backed up his talk the next play by breaking up a pass.

Special teams had Jereme Jones, TJ Glover, and BJ Scott on punt return duty. Kicker/punter Aleem Sunanon was drilling 44-yard field goals with ease.

The players are still being worked hard. A few players suffered from heat exhaustion today, but nothing beyond throwing up. Several coaches were preaching the players to stay outside on plays and that the inside is where you get crushed. No injuries today and the Jags looked healthy and improved going into Tuesday’s workouts.
